This NYT article discusses the work being done so search engines can search the Deep Web--resources that are not readily available including library catalogs, license information, and similar databases.
I work with Deep Web Technologies and we've been building specialized deep web searches for years! Check out www.biznar.com for an example of how we search dynamic or subscription only databases. Also, http://science.gov searches government databases- uniting them so they are all searched from one box.
MILI is the Metronet Information Literacy Initiative. It is a collaboration between Metronet, the multicounty, multitype library systems serving the 7-count metro area of St. Paul/Minneapolis, and District 16 (Spring Lake Park), District 112 (Chaska), and Minneapolis Public Schools. The 10 month project provides training and support to teams of library media specialists and teachers on integrating information literacy standards into classroom teaching. We encourage collaboration between teachers & media specialist on teaching the MILI 3 Rs--Research, Reliable Resources, and Responsible Use. To learn more about the content of the training, visit http://metronetmili.pbwiki.com/
